ABOUT
Shape of Becoming explores how the people in our lives shape our identity and guide us toward our unique voices. Inspired by Japanese Noh theater and the Zen meditation practice of sutra tracing, the experience invites reflection on personal growth through a performance of Benjamin Britten’s String Quartet No. 2 and spoken-word storytelling, culminating in a collective ritual—mirroring Britten’s own journey of transformation.
Music by Benjamin Britten
Created by Mari Lee

The development of Shape of Becoming is made possible through the generous support of Yee-Ping Wu and Philip Lui, Sachie Ho and Dr. Heesung Chong, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and a creative residency on Potash Hill, the summer home of Marlboro Music.
